The IT GETS BETTER SERIES

See the series hereIT GETS BETTER”

This collection was created with the intent to help those who are currently dealing with the iatrogenic (medically caused) injury from psych meds…so that they might know that we can heal. The series was a weekly occurrence for some time a few years ago.

The series is also intended to help educate the masses to the realities that so many people are facing. Protracted psychiatric drug withdrawal is real. It’s also sometimes gravely disabling. The fact is it’s largely denied in the medical community. Those who are already suffering are routinely blamed and told that the experience is psychiatric…this leads to more drugging and sometimes forced drugging with the very drugs that have harmed us. This must end.

There is no societal support when folks are coming through this heinous process…many people have no familial or community support whatsoever. This is a dangerous reality and people can even die as a result.

Please become educated. And please pass the information along in any way that makes sense, so that those of us struck with this can get the help we need and deserve.

Thank you.

The “It gets better” collection is a series of republished posts from when I was gravely ill from the psych drug withdrawal process and the following protracted psychiatric drug withdrawal syndrome. So many folks out there are now going through the heinous process of finding their way through psychiatric drug withdrawal syndrome and other iatrogenic injuries from psychiatric drugging.

*it is potentially dangerous to come off medications without careful planning. Please be sure to be well educated before undertaking any sort of discontinuation of medications. If your MD agrees to help you do so, do not assume they know how to do it well even if they claim to have experience. They are generally not trained in discontinuation and may not know how to recognize withdrawal issues. A lot of withdrawal issues are misdiagnosed to be psychiatric problems. This is why it’s good to educate oneself and find a doctor who is willing to learn with you as your partner in care.  Really all doctors should always be willing to do this as we are all individuals and need to be treated as such. See: Psychiatric drug withdrawal and protracted withdrawal syndrome round-up

It’s become clear to me that whenever it’s possible that it’s helpful for folks who’ve not begun withdrawal and have the time to consider a carefully thought out plan to attempt to bring greater well-being to your body before starting the withdrawal. That means learning how to profoundly nourish your body/mind and spirit prior to beginning a withdrawal. For suggestions on how to go about doing that check the drop-down menus on this blog for ideas. Anything that helps you learn how to live well can be part of your plan. That plan will look different for everyone as we learn to follow our hearts and find our own unique paths in the world. Things to begin considering are diet, exercise and movement, meditation/contemplation etc. Paying attention to all these things as you do them helps too. The body will start letting us know what it needs as we learn to pay attention.

  1. Hello Monica, that I know of, the LGBTQ community put our something of that nature with a similar title and message to young people telling them they were not alone if they felt confused and had questions or doubts about such things. I believe the name of what you are speaking is “I got better” put out by MindFreedom. That I know of, the series is not only about drugs, it’s about the entire mental health system, including incarceration and inability to live independently, as often “mentally ill” are said to be. The series states that those once thought of as “severely mentally ill” are now living very different lives than our captors once predicted. It seems they predicted wrong, and no one is a fortune-teller.

That I know of, the project is ongoing and anyone can add a video or any project they wish. I wrote to MindFreedom way back when telling them I would like to participate but I never had the chance. I know others did, notably Loretta Wilson (shock survivor) and Pat Risser of Ohio. who died in the summer of 2016.

So it is not about “drug damage,” but really focuses on transcending the dead-end diagnoses once given to us. They were not very good fortune tellers, and they should not make such ridiculous, and ultimately harmful claims.

    1. Oh so it is not the same as the MindFreedom one. I see. I agree, people are indeed injured by drugs and of course there’s a lot of heavy duty interest in just shutting us up and calling us crazy rather than dealing with us honestly.

I’m trying to contact David Healy to find out which of that gigantic cocktail I was on caused me to be currently losing my eyesight. If anyone out there is likewise affected and is reading this let me know. I am right now contemplating the fact that i was sustained on 600 mgs/per day Lamictal for no reason, a very dangerous dose for many months, taken as prescribed, plus the rest of the huge cocktail and that may have done it. If anyone sees this and has any thoughts please get back to me.

      1. In 2011 I had double vision but that was while I was on the drugs. The diploplia stopped when I stopped the 600/day Lamictal. Now they only get worse and worse, kinda fast. Due to abuse that happened to me while I was inpatient in (this was in 2011 and 2013, never got an attorney) I am very scared of doctors and anything to do with hospitals now. I have trouble trusting them. Last time I saw the eye doc they wanted to do fancy stuff but I said no way. The 2nd Opinion doc said I needed another opinion, but also said “Don’t let #1 operate.” So I ran outa there! I never revealed my history of course…..
