Food is like a pharmaceutical compound???

I found a ludicrous statement in an article in The Economic Times that otherwise supports my position that food is medicine:

“Food is like a pharmaceutical compound that affects the brain,” said Fernando Gsmez-Pinilla, University of California LA and professor of neurosurgery and physiological science. (emphasis mine)

“Diet, exercise and sleep have the potential to alter our brain health and mental function, said Gomez-Pinilla.

Yeah, food is medicine but to compare it to a pharmaceutical compound is ridiculous, as if pharmaceutical compounds were as benign and healing as food. Pharmaceutical compounds are rarely benign or healing. Healthy, whole, natural food is always benign and often healing as are most nutritional supplements. Food is the real medicine, pharmaceuticals are not. Pharmaceuticals are usually toxic regardless of possibly having some useful function. Certainly all psychiatric drugs are toxic.

  1. I think he was stating the obvious for the dumb people out there.
Stupid people have to be told food affects the brain as well as the rest of the body.

It is an important messege for the fast food-processed food crowd. That they will lsten and understand is extreamly doubtful.
