Forgiving Part II

Quotes on Forgiveness:

The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.– Mahatma Gandhi

When we harbor negative emotions toward others or toward ourselves, or when we intentionally create pain for others, we poison our own physical and spiritual systems. Many people are afraid to forgive because they feel they must remember the wrong or they will not learn from it. The opposite is true. The present is endlessly overwhelmed and devoured by the past. Forgiveness frees the forgiver. It extracts the forgiver from someone else’s nightmare.” – Lance Morrow

  1. This is so difficult for me to do (forgive) when I am a raw nerve in w/d, but I’m trying to make it a lifestyle, instead of being at the mercy of other human beings.

    Amen girl…I couldn’t have said it better myself…yup! I’m a raw nerve too…one of my favorite saying right now, truly…I use it all the time!!

    and it is hard right now.

  2. I just know we’ve got to have our forgiveness filter on in order to heal. I’m convinced of that. Every time someone hurts us or the past is brought up in our thoughts, we have to chose to forgive and release ourselves from that stronghold. I’m really struggling with this myself right now. It’s good for our brains to hear us forgive, so say it outloud. Unforgiveness shows up as a literal dark spot in the memory trees according to Dr. Caroline Leaf. A lesioned brain has a corresponding lesion in the body. It is truly a root of bitterness that can destroy us in every way. Forgiveness doesn’t take away the memory, just the pain associated with the memory. The body breathes a huge sigh of relief when forgiveness is applied…and cell membranes relax and everything flows through the body as it should. This is so difficult for me to do when I am a raw nerve in w/d, but I’m trying to make it a lifestyle, instead of being at the mercy of other human beings.

  3. also, Mark, if people want to harbor anger and rage, I’m not going to stop them….god knows I can’t and I’ve had a lot of if directed at me.

    what I know is that if I harbor anger and rage I feel sicker…so like I said…this is for me…I don’t want poison in my soul. I want to heal.

    and I find the practice of forgiveness to be part of my healing process. I pray and/or meditate for those who have hurt me and I send them love. Really. I feel their deep humanity, humanity just like mine, just like Jesus’ and just like Buddha…we all have spirit in us and we all have potential hell and evil.

    And I find that some of us who have been hurt hate me in turn for having such an attitude…can’t win on this one…but I DO CHOOSE to love whenever I can

    also love does not destroy anger…anger is healthy and normal….it’s when it festers that it’s not—when it becomes hatred for example.

  4. The time to forgive, is at the end of a war, not during it.
    Acceptance for the way (insane) things are going now , is an appropriate way to cope

    forgiveness and acceptance has nothing to do with ceasing to be an activist and changing things…it has everything to do with healing ourselves so that we can be more effective. It is at bottom a selfish thing to do…

    also as one of the quotes says….none of us are without fault…we can hate those who harm us all we want….it won’t help us…it will help them.

    Thanks for the Serenity Prayer, it’s a beautiful and wonderful prayer.

  5. Thousands or more of innocent children are being brain chemically altered every day to change their behaviour. neurotransmitter damaged maybe, addicted maybe, turned into criminals maybe.
    This is being done by lying professional doctors and researchers for multimillion dollar profit and status for having the “right” answers. Legal drug pushers.

    Children (remember) are forced to go to school, forced education is going to have problems.

    Magical chemicals-drugs-meds. Is this drugging good or bad?
    The time to forgive, is at the end of a war, not during it.
    Acceptance for the way (insane) things are going now , is an appropriate way to cope .

    ” to accept the things I cannot change;
    the courage to change the things I can;”

    Serenity Prayer

    God grant me the serenity
    to accept the things I cannot change;
    the courage to change the things I can;
    and the wisdom to know the difference.
