I took part in some random University Study about mental health bloggers. I really have no idea what they were studying but they offered a ten dollar gift certificate at Amazon. I figured what the hell and answered their pretty lame questionaire. It was pretty clear it was a badly designed study.
In any case I bought a Radiohead CD with the below song on it with my reward. It covered the whole price of the CD. I hadn’t bought any music in a long long time.
I’d heard of Radiohead but never listened to them before. Amazon recommended them to me based on some other preference of mine. I’ve been pleasantly surprised. I can listen to very little music these days as almost everything irritates my CNS system. This whole album (In Rainbows) I find beautifully soothing.
Considering this video has been watched over 4 million times on Youtube, I suspect I’m terribly out of the loop of the popularity of this band and chances are they are some sort of pop sensation. But I don’t listen to the radio and even if I did we have no stations here that would play them. We have awful radio stations.

In Radiohead’s new video for “House of Cards”, no cameras or lights were used. Instead, 3D plotting technologies collected information about the shapes and relative distances of objects. The video was created entirely with visualizations of that data.
I was reading a short blurb about a band called Sigur Rós and thought of you. It describes them as “Icelandic indie dream pop” and “slightly reminiscent of Radiohead”. Might be worth looking into.

I love Led Zeppelin too but couldn’t possibly tolerate the noise right now…so much music is like that for me…it’s a bummer…

My latest CD was one I got for Valentine’s Day from my mother and sister. It is by Sarah Bailles. I like it a lot.
I started listening to them back in high school. My favorite song from them is an old one, “Fake Plastic Trees” (I’ve probably even used the song title as one of my post titles). When OK Computer came out, I liked it but I started to lose interest. By the time they had their next album out I had moved on entirely and was listening to breakbeat / the breaks and trance.
I like this though, so maybe I’ll go back. It has a very soothing quality to it.
I still haven’t quite figured the noise-thing out. I’ve always loathed noise from stuff like lawn mowers, vacuum cleaners, washing machines, telephones (whoever invented cell phones… or any other of all these electronic devices, that beep at everything and nothing), doors getting slammed, people shouting, laughing, or sometimes just talking, and and and.
On the other hand, I have no problem (on the contrary) listening to, for instance, Led Zeppelin, or Steve Hackett and David Gilmour making the guitar sing – for everyone who can stand it: “Echoes” is just mind blowing! – or the (to me) soothing sound of combines and ship sirens.
Yesterday a friend sent me to listen to Anne Feeney. “Objectively” seen (or heard), her music isn’t half as “noisy” as some of the above mentioned, and I’m not narrow-minded in regard to style, listen to anything from medieval tunes to prog rock. Nevertheless, three bars and my head was about to explode. Maybe it’s her voice and/or technique.
It seems, it’s not always only a question of “objective” sound/noise, not only a question of one’s senses’ sensitivity. Some psychological aspects may well be involved. But maybe that’s different when it is due to withdrawal.

Radiohead rock! Good purchase. In Rainbows isn’t their best CD, overall anyway I don’t think but I still liked it a lot. It’s a bit different in style to their older stuff but still cool. Their OK Computer album is definitely worth looking into. Seriously good music there.
no…it appears to be aerial boundaries…on youtube anyway….very pretty…it sounds like a CD we played at our wedding of guitar music…it makes me want to find that CD…I haven’t listened to it in a long time…

One more cd that is AMAZING and very very very soothing, easy on the ears is Michael Hedges – Aerial Boundaries…..there is some of his stuff on you tube.
well, whether it’s a recommendation or not, I’ll check them out…anything that might not be irritating and enjoyable is a good thing in my mind…I love music and really miss not being able to listen to a whole lot of my favorite stuff.

I have had Placebo’s “Meds” album on repeat for the past two months. It’s one of the few pieces of music that I don’t find irritating right now. The other is Lilly Allen’s pop album, “Alright, still”. This is not a recommendation, just a comment.

Pipes drive me insane…voices on cell phones drive me insane because they are tinny…it’s not that I wouldn’t like them if my CNS system was strong…

I do love Celtic music in theory though….just gotta get my CNS back in order….
I like baroque music too Deborah, but probably couldn’t listen to that right now either….

Radiohead is so great. Another great album by them, that I could listen to all day is “Kid A”. A little odd, but I love it.
Nice music! My thing is baroque streaming radio at work and dead silence at home…Also excellent headphones.

Um, I’d heard of them. We have great radio stations here, but I was not familiar with this song, at least. I like the tune and visuals, not sure about his voice. Maybe a different song.

I love music since… ever. Strangely enough for the last years I was not listening to music. Last month I started buying CDs and now I’m back to normal and listen to music all day as I did when i was little.
When I was 10 years old I used to ask the taxi-driver to turn on the radio and put on my favorite station. They laughed and did it.
