Buy nothing day

Now in its 17th year, Buy Nothing Day is celebrated every November by environmentalists, social activists and concerned citizens in over 65 countries around the world. Over the years, Buy Nothing Day (followed by Buy Nothing Christmas) has exploded into a global movement, inspiring the world’s citizens to live more simply and buy a whole lot less.

  1. I just finally looked at that WalMart story…I guess I didn’t really want to think about it earlier…it’s grossly disturbing and I think it says a lot about the people who shop at WalMart (unfortunately that means average Americans)…and our disgusting mass-consumerism culture…

    I feel sick.

  2. I haven’t been to a Wal-Mart in years…can’t stand the place…and you are right, from what I have heard, they are indeed criminals.

  3. yeah, I’ve participated for years as well…way before I knew about this…

then again, I try to stay away from places like Wal-Mart full time…they’re criminals…plain and simple.

  4. Hmmm…guess I have been participating in this for years without knowing it…the whole concept disgusts me…I refuse to leave the house on Black Friday. Not even for groceries.

    Thanks for posting this!
Oh, and I read the Wal-Mart story…can’t believe people can get that riled up about shopping. It’s a really sad commentary on the way this society is going.

  5. susan this is about gross consumerism of which this country has a bad case…taking care of your kitty and getting some milk doesn’t count in my mind…

take care of you and yours…

  6. Gianna,

I just posted, there was a worker who was trampled to death this morning at a NY Wal-Mart and a woman lost her baby.

I wish they had seen your article.

  7. I love it love it love it love it.

I wish I had seen it yesterday. I need milk and kitty litter. I really need kitty litter. Am I a bad person if I go out to the local bodega and get some kitty litter?

My sister, as i write this at 8 minutes to 5 am, is waiting outside her local Target to get a good buy on a color TV and a digital camera. She does this every year, first in line at some store on Black Friday and gets her shopping done. I think it’s silly, but what do i know??

So- if the cat is cool with going one extra day without a brand clean box, i will observe this totally. if she isn’t …… oh well.

-Can mirror this to my blog? it’s brilliant!
