Big pharma’s reach is everywhere

This story has been brewing for a while—pharma corruption in the Nobel Prize process. The drugs in question (the vaccines) are highly controversial and AstraZeneca has been pushing real hard to have every 11 year old girl vaccinated (specifically with Gardasil.) There are a lot of problems and side effects associated with them including death. This is not a blog about drugs other than psychotropics in general, but I feel it’s important that we know that the corruption is everywhere and throughout all of medicine. We should always know what we put in our bodies. And not trust pharma educated GP’s.

The integrity of the Nobel prize was called into question last night after it emerged that a member of the jury also sat on the board of a pharmaceuticals giant that benefited from the award of this year’s prize for medicine.

Prosecutors were studying whether AstraZeneca, the London-based multi-national pharmaceutical company, could have exerted undue influence on the award.

The joint winner of this year’s Nobel Prize for Medicine, Harald zur Hausen, was recognised for his work on the human papilloma virus (HPV), which can lead to cervical cancer. AstraZeneca has a stake in two lucrative vaccines against the virus.

Two senior figures in the process that chose Mr zur Hausen have strong links with the pharmaceutical company, which has also recently begun sponsoring the Nobel website and pro-motional subsidiary. The company strongly denies any wrongdoing. (read the rest here)

there has been mumbling about vaccinating the boys too…but I think the girls get targeted simply because we live in paternalistic and sexist society…

pharma will have all children vaccinated if they can pull it off though, no doubt there.

and I’m sure it has nothing to do with anything that actually makes sense epidemiologically.

Maybe I’m just a dim-witted veterinarian (& I meant to corner my boy’s pediatrician** on this, but ran short on time on our last checkup), but I don’t understand why, if HPV is a “herd health” problem, why we aren’t vaccinating BOYS (i.e. the carriers/potential transmitters) as well as the girls…
**not that I would expect him to have a great answer for me; who **might** is an EPIDEMIOLOGIST!
