Paper In New ‘Psychosis’ Journal Shows Many Patients Do Better Without Psychiatric Drugs

This is wonderful stunning news that is actually being recognized by a few actual psychiatrists who count in that corrupt world!!

From Medical News Today:

The very first paper, by Dr John Bola of the University of Southern California and three European researchers, reviews the only five studies of what happens when people diagnosed ‘schizophrenic’ are given psycho-social support instead of anti-psychotic drugs in the first few weeks of treatment. All five found better long-term outcomes than the traditional approach of hospitalization and medication.

Dr Mario Maj – President, World Psychiatric Association:
“Psychosis will be extremely useful not only in providing information on evidence-based psychotherapies and other psychosocial interventions, but also in re-educating all of us about the importance of the psychosocial dimension in the development, persistence and outcome of psychoses.”

Dr Paul Fink – Past President, American Psychiatric Association:
“Psychosis is going to be a monumental help to people working with psychosis all over the world. I particularly value the fact that it stresses psychotherapy”

Editor, Dr John Read of the University of Auckland, New Zealand:
“Psychosis fills a gap in the scientific literature, which is currently dominated by a rather simplistic and reductionist bio-genetic model that often seems to be based more on ideology and vested interests than on rigorous research. This approach can lead to a minimization of psychological and social factors and to a damaging pessimism about the probability of recovery.”

The journal, which includes first-person accounts from people who experience psychosis, will be one of a tiny minority of mental health journals which will not carry drug company advertisements. (read the source here)

  1. Fabulous.
I suspect that many psychiatric consumers (this term is perhaps a sad commentary on what was supposed to be an empowering term as it is so dis-empowering now, since all we can consume is medication from the bio- medical model of psychiatry) are like me in that my experience have left me so angry that dwelling on them without support leaves me more susceptible to my condition ans so more likely to be ill treated by hospitalization, medication etc. To be victimized as a child has lead to so much re-traumatization is is hard to have much real fight left in me. Yet i still want to find something that feels like a satisfactory life.
I believe that until we learn to support and help heal each other we will not get well. We need to have the belief in ourselves and the forum to do this. We already have the ability.
Thanks again for all you do!

  2. …which of course reflects the power balance (or: imbalance) in society in general.

Never mind. I guess, I’m just grumpy today. I was really, really disappointed to find out, that the Danish group (just as the Swedish, btw) consists of a bunch of drug pushers.

  3. Yes, I know. A lot of good people in the ISPS. Without doubt. That’s why I said, it’s a ragbag. Actually, I sent a link to my blog post to the Danish ISPS. I don’t expect any reaction… Haven’t made out any good people in the Danish group yet.

The journal looks really interesting, and it’s awesome that they won’t advertise. One thing though: of about ten – twelve articles, there are maybe two (I don’t remember the exact numbers), that are not written by people, who are mere observers (professionals). I wish, they would give more room to those, who have had the experience. Instead of endlessly theorizing about us.

  4. well a lot of their members are also ICSPP members (Breggins group) of which I am a member.

and I know lots of radicals here that are part of the group…AND I just joined so I could get this journal!!

    cheers.

  5. The ISPS really seems to be something of a ragbag. I just slammed the Danish group more or less completely for promoting drugs, in the grand manner, and the biological model. Which they do. But I also added a link to the US-group’s site to my sidebar.

  6. psychiatry had ruined my life with drugs I didnt need and who had several long-term effects.

i will spare you the awful details – except that I had a great mind(power-memory/learning/creativity) and now its lost.

I had brain-injury from lupus-anti-coug (blood clots) and should have been handled with care.

    brain-scans/MRIs cost alot.

DO NOT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER, WHATEVER SOUNDS OR LOOKS GOOD ON THE OUTSIDE IS UGLY ON THE INSIDES.

TOO BAD I GOT MY LOOKS, BUT AGAIN – I LOST THAT TOO NOW.
