One of my goals on this blog is to provide a forum for people to share their stories and research on drug side effects. I’ll do my best to include your information in future blog posts and possibly on RxISK.org (I’ll contact you first). —David Healy

Share your story — So if you or your partner, parent, child, or friend has been through the “system” — injured by treatment and possibly trapped in a Kafkaesque world when you haven’t got the help you needed from doctors, regulators, or anyone else you thought should be there to help, fill in the form below and let me know the details. (Have a look at my first few blog posts and see if you can provide something complementary.)

Share your research — I will soon be posting a draft position paper on Antidepressants (work is underway for papers on the Antipsychotics, Mood-Stabilizers, Stimulants, Dopamine Agonists, and Hypoglycemics). I invite input from anyone who can provide comparable statements for other drug groups or who can see ways to improve on what has been done here for antidepressants. To submit your draft position paper or comments, fill out the form below.

David Healy’s Bio:

Dr. David Healy is an internationally respected psychiatrist, psychopharmacologist, scientist, and author. A professor of Psychiatry in Wales, David studied medicine in Dublin, and at Cambridge University. He is a former Secretary of the British Association for Psychopharmacology, and has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed articles, 200 other pieces, and 20 books, including The Antidepressant Era and The Creation of Psychopharmacology from Harvard University Press, The Psychopharmacologists Volumes 1-3 and Let Them Eat Prozac from New York University Press, and Mania from Johns Hopkins University Press.

David’s main areas of research are clinical trials in psychopharmacology, the history of psychopharmacology, and the impact of both trials and psychotropic drugs on our culture.

He has been involved as an expert witness in homicide and suicide trials involving psychotropic drugs, and in bringing problems with these drugs to the attention of American and British regulators, as well raising awareness of how pharmaceutical companies sell drugs by marketing diseases and co-opting academic opinion-leaders, ghost-writing their articles.

David’s latest book, Pharmageddon to be published by University of California Press in March 2012, documents the riveting and terrifying story of how pharmaceutical companies have hijacked healthcare in America and the life-threatening results.

David is a founder and Chief Executive Officer of Data Based Medicine Limited, which operates through its website RxISK.org, dedicated to making medicine safer through online direct patient reporting of drug effects.

Go check out his new website!! This is what we need, MDs and researchers collecting what we’ve been putting out into the blogosphere for years now. Great to see this new development.

With Robert Whitaker’s website Mad in America taking off and continuing to collect additional information and bloggers, we’re starting to see some real change. Yay.
