To be sure, I am a forest, and a night of dark trees: but he who is not afraid of my darkness, will find banks full of roses under my cypresses. … [click on title for the rest of the post]
The poop project (yes, for real!)
This is a very important project! Among other things our gut health and the quality of our waste is of utmost important to our physical and mental well-being, but as Shawn Shafner points out the implications of the taboo on speaking about poop goes much farther than that. I've been researching the gut and ultimately how to achieve profoundly healthy poop for many years now. … [click on title for the rest of the post]
the sound of rain needs no translation
I had a discussion with a great master in Japan, and we were talking about the various people who are working to translate the Zen books into English, and he said, "That's a waste of time. If you really understand Zen... you can use any book. You could use the Bible. You could use Alice in Wonderland. You could use the dictionary, because the sound of the rain needs no translation.… [click on title for the rest of the post]
Life is utterly mysterious…
Life is so utterly mysterious it is breathtaking. Yet normally most of us go about our business as if being alive was nothing remarkable. We pretend we know what’s going on, when really we don’t. Socca — flatbread made with chick-pea flour. Grain/gluten free. #foodie friday
I made socca (chickpea flour flatbread) it came out great. I was so excited as I eat nothing even vaguely bread-like these days. I made half of it with tomato and basil (for my husband....drizzled olive oil on top). This is a recipe that lends itself to variations. You can make it plain with no herbs or onion, or vary the herbs and use garlic instead. Caraway seed would be good too and I'm sure many other variations too. Oh, I can't eat cinnamon, but I can imagine a sweet version with cinnamon and vanilla and a bit of your favorite sweetener as well. Play with the recipe...I plan to! … [click on title for the rest of the post]
Trauma and your body
