Science is not only compatible with spirituality; it is a profound source of spirituality

Science is not only compatible with spirituality; it is a profound source of spirituality. When we recognize our place in an immensity of light‐years and in the passage of ages, when we grasp the intricacy, beauty, and subtlety of life, then that soaring feeling, that sense of elation and humility combined, is surely spiritual. Psychiatric drug withdrawal in tweets

Part of informed consent is telling patients they might not ever be able to come off psych drugs without getting seriously ill. If you're the MD handling a withdrawal it's important that your patients know at the outset how gravely serious withdrawal syndromes can be. (and first the doctor has to understand this as well) [click on title to read more]

Trauma, Brain and Relationship: Helping Children Heal

Children and trauma...many traumatic events may not be obvious to all adults. Learn to protect your kids. We need to heal ourselves to be the best parents we can be too. I've posted this video before because it's so excellent. If you've not seen it I highly recommend it. "Developmental trauma, or ambient trauma, is trauma that is just everyday life. It's in the neighborhood, it's in the household..." "It's very easy for adults to dismiss the profound impact that a traumatic event can have on a child because very often, they will do most things pretty well." [click on title to read more]

Gender violence is not just a women’s issue

We are all in this together. A society that disrespects any group of people is a sick society. This man is refreshing. Oh, wow, he's really great. We are all bystanders if we're not directly involved in an abuse triad. Friends, teammates, coworkers, family. What do we do when people harm or are being harmed? if others do not understand our behavior — so what?

If other people do not understand our behavior—so what? Their request that we must only do what they understand is an attempt to dictate to us. If this is being "asocial" or "irrational" in their eyes, so be it. Mostly they resent our freedom and our courage to be ourselves. ... [click on title to read more]

I instead take care of my hair at home. I use organic unscented shampoo and conditioner and nothing else on my hair. I even stopped coloring it and let the grey come in. ... Meditation while living. Not just 25 minutes a day on a cushion

While being in a silent place with no distractions can certainly be lovely, healing and necessary at times, it should not rule out practicing mindfulness anywhere and everywhere. Once you learn more mindfulness meditation it can be practiced while doing EVERYTHING including and especially during mundane tasks such as washing the dishes. It can transform those tasks into experiencing life deeply even while doing things you might have at one point thought of just as a chore...

To those of us who’ve had our freedom stolen by drugs

To those of us who've had our freedom stolen by drugs forced upon us through various coercive means...and to everyone who did that to us: Nelson Mandela on Day After ReleaseI knew as well as I knew anything that the oppressor must be liberated just as surely as the oppressed. A man who takes away another man’s freedom is a prisoner of hatred... [click on title to read more]

A lovely mama doing yoga while her kids run about. This is how life is.

Well, I've got two very busy kittens who like to get busy about me (and on me) when I do my yoga practice. This video is so beautiful it brought tears of joy to my eyes. Somehow it encapsulates something fundamental about life, I think... [click on title to read more]

The quick fix is almost always a lie

When one understands the interconnectedness of everything it becomes clear that healing must borrow from all corners of experience... "Cure" is rarely one thing applied to the whole. Healing is instead a dance of many things synergistically coming together for wholeness.... [click on title to read more]
