Prison Yoga Project

prison yogaA prisoner says about yoga, “it’s ironic that I found what I was looking for in San Quentin.”

I believe it. That is how powerful yoga is. It can rehabilitate body/mind and soul.

Yoga has been and remains a critical part of my healing protocol. It not only saved my ravaged and disabled body after having been bed-ridden for two years from the drug induced iatrogenic illness, it’s also helped heal trauma and simply been a profoundly holistic healing method for every aspect of my life.

James Fox, founder and director of Prison Yoga Project, tells the story of Prison Yoga Project. How he started teaching at San Quentin, the scope of the problem, the struggles all prisoners have with violence and addiction. The transformative value of yoga and mindfulness for prisoners and the public.
