Psychiatric Drugs Cause Harm — #WorldBenzoDay

This is the video I did last year for this day. Help raise awareness and please share it and other information about benzodiazepines today.  Visit: —  World Benzodiazepine Day: Change through Unity  (Facebook page)

Recently I wrote another post about what it was like when the illness incurred by the drugs was at its worst: When medicine and doctors almost kill you…  Because, yeah, I was on death’s door for a long, long time. It can still feel traumatic to really think about that time. I do hope we can help others avoid such a fate.

*it is potentially dangerous to come off medications without careful planning. Please be sure to be well educated before undertaking any sort of discontinuation of medications. If your MD agrees to help you do so, do not assume they know how to do it well even if they claim to have experience. They are generally not trained in discontinuation and may not know how to recognize withdrawal issues. A lot of withdrawal issues are misdiagnosed to be psychiatric problems. This is why it’s good to educate oneself and find a doctor who is willing to learn with you as your partner in care.  Really all doctors should always be willing to do this as we are all individuals and need to be treated as such. See: Psychiatric drug withdrawal and protracted withdrawal syndrome round-up

It’s become clear to me that whenever it’s possible that it’s helpful for folks who’ve not begun withdrawal and have the time to consider a carefully thought out plan to attempt to bring greater well-being to your body before starting the withdrawal. That means learning how to profoundly nourish your body/mind and spirit prior to beginning a withdrawal. For suggestions on how to go about doing that check the drop-down menus on this blog for ideas. Anything that helps you learn how to live well can be part of your plan. That plan will look different for everyone as we learn to follow our hearts and find our own unique paths in the world. Things to begin considering are diet, exercise and movement, meditation/contemplation etc. Paying attention to all these things as you do them helps too. The body will start letting us know what it needs as we learn to pay attention.

  1. Yes, indeed, I know what it’s like to have the psychiatrist and medications almost kill you. What happened to you is a shame. What happened to me is in my graphic novel “Little Porcupine Goes to the Psyche Ward” available on Amazon. It is difficult to tell about it, so I put it all down in my book. Have you been to http://www.madinamerica.com ??

    1. I checked out your many blog titles and read some. Thanks !! You’re doing such a good job. I am hoping to do a personal story soon. I’ve already written it but will go back to edit. It’s so nice to virtually meet you. 🙂

  2. I tried your links to the maastric study and it doesn’t work, l’m currently à user of à bi therapy of 2 neuroleptics (against my will). I have a very dramatic story to tell that l think would interest your forum, please let me know if you re interested. My history concerns 2 attempts to come off neuroleptics cold turkey. Thanks for your encouraging and helpful forum, please, please continue !
