Narrative and story

Narrative and story are tools of interpretation. They do not and cannot represent absolute truth. Within the evolving persons life a narrative can change many times. Alternately one might apply a multitude of narratives to a single issue so that in effect one can see themselves simultaneously through many prisms and thus have a more holistic and profound understanding of their experience.

Madness, Possession and Transformation: A Personal Narrative of Healing

By Jon Keyes

In the early 90′s, I went through a profound experience of psychosis, a complete and radical change of my consciousness from a state of relatively normal perception and comprehension to a state of deeply unsettling confusion, anxiety with a persistent altered mind frame. Thoughts were easily jumbled. I alternated between periods of frenetic excitability and then spiraled into deep despair and hopelessness. Social interactions could often be torturous to the point where isolation often felt like a good answer. I felt like I was cracking, coming apart. Stories rarely told: Listening, suppression and narrative burden

Active listening is not always silent. But it is attuned to the realities that our roles and needs in dialogue are not equal. Active listening acknowledges that one participant’s experience or imput is secondary at least for the time being, but sometimes forever. Dissociation is a legitimate coping mechanism but coming to consciousness requires understanding when we do it — at the very least. And heck yeah, I feel like an alien too…most of us do…hence […]

Healing plants: mineral rich herbs for nourishment etc

My primary relationships right now are with the plants that are healing me. It’s an all encompassing love affair. What humans have never been able to give me, these plants are offering. Plant spirit medicine is for real. we are all one. nature is inherent to how we evolved. Whether we use the language of […]

Bipolar: contemplation about the psych label

I am life. I am psychedelic. I am kaleidoscopic. I am conscious. I am aware. I am silence. I am chaos.  The term bipolar *disorder* attempts to diminish. Two poles? In a world of endless spectrums all interlacing into oneness? What nonsense. The term bipolar is attached to people like me. We frighten those “treating” us. We are sensitive, open, people in need of shamanic-like guidance.
