Food as medicine. Food sensitivities, too.

Food and diet has been critically important to my healing journey. Sensitivities are profound teachers that humble me again and again and teach me all manner of things about the nature of being human. I am finding more and more people who understand them in this way. What we are finding is that there is some spiritual significance in the very real (and sometimes potentially deadly) physical, biological and physiological reactions that so many people on the planet are experiencing with foods that used to be safe to eat. Of course there is also environmental significance to the phenomena. …

Zuzu ganoush and Sourdough Spelt Flatbread

I made a variation of this delightful creation (the zuzu ganoush, not the bread) by Lindsay Wilson, Madhupa Maypop. I put in mint, basil and parsley from the garden and added a some hemp seeds in addition to the tahini…it was GOOD. thank you Lindsay! … [click on title to read and view more]

The politics of food, nutrition, vegan, paleo, etc. etc. (diet)

I mindfully use diet and food and herbs to heal my body/mind/spirit. Natural healing depends on it, but the information out there is sometimes very difficult to navigate. … [click on title to read and view more]

healing documented

The archives of this site now span 16 years. They are a record of a  life – learning and transforming at a rate unlike any other time. I say this as a way of disclaimer. In the earlier years of this work I am processing shock and dismay. In the early years I am undisputedly… Continue Reading →

Mental health and diet: nutrition and gut health

This collection has been growing for many years with this website… All diets are bullsh*t  serves as a critique and caveat I discovered as a result of doing so many healing diets and paying such mindful attention to food and what goes in my body  — I needed to do it all and don’t regret any of… Continue Reading →

The middle way to eating (intuitive eating) #foodie friday

I’ve not read the below book, but I like the way it’s talking about food, because although I’ve needed to change my diet in all sorts of radical ways during this healing process I find myself in, I actually do have a practice around food that looks much like what this quote from this book speaks to. I am actually quite flexible within the restrictions I have no choice but to impose while my body heals. I am not generally afraid of food and I routinely introduce new foods as I heal. It’s been an amazing and lovely learning journey in so many ways. When people have very real food intolerances finding one’s way back to moderation and flexibility can be a challenge, but it’s not impossible. One thing I’ve needed to do is not care what others think. I have some very real intolerances and there really are foods I cannot eat for the time being. That is okay. It is real. We can still find what flexibility means for us even if that is the case with some foods for us. … [click on title to read and view more]

The gift of our bodies and the foods that we feed it

I wrote most of this post for The Receiving Project group which I posted about a couple of days ago. It’s got dietary info if you’re into that sort of thing. I’m healing and food continues to be a phenomenally important part of that gestalt. — Astonishing loveliness. This is a weird gift and may not mean much to most of you but it’s so HUGE and FUNDAMENTAL to me that I’m going to share it anyway. Yesterday afternoon I went to my amazing healing chiropractor man and he gave me a suggestion. … [click on the title to read and view more]

Salmon on a bed of parsley, garlic, burdock root and artichoke hearts #foodie friday

I don’t tolerate fish oil in supplement form, nor any other Omega 3 supplement so I was thrilled to learn I do okay with flash frozen (right upon catch) salmon…(histamine intolerance has its challenges) and Omega 3 fatty acids are very important to heal the iatrogenically injured brain — anyway…this was breakfast a few days ago:

Piece of salmon on top of a bed of burdock root, garlic, parsley & artichoke hearts. … [click on title for the rest of the post]

Mango cheese cake (raw, vegan, paleo and OMG yummy) #foodie friday

As much as it seems to annoy some people, I do like tweeting what I’m up to in the kitchen. Sometimes people ask me for recipes. I generally don’t use recipes. I throw things together on the fly based on whims. Sometimes that works out real well. It did this time. So I patched together a recipe of sorts below. Clearly it’s not totally precise but if you like to experiment in the kitchen it’s enough to do that with. … [click on title for the rest of the post]
