Mindfulness in trauma flow

There is a concept of “flow” …or stream entry in Buddhism…when we are moving along with the energetics of NOW…we are in the moment and not burdened by future or past. It is the natural state of *being here now*. (to use Ram Dass’s terminology) I’m proposing (because I’ve experienced it) a sort of flow… Continue Reading →

Jane Fonda on transformative healing. Tell it to us, sister!

This, too, is another way to talk about some of what I’ve been experiencing with my transformative healing from the iatrogenic brain injury. Jane Fonda speaks of it in terms of a maturation process…a developmental stage, which I think is totally appropriate. That said, I have encountered hundreds of young folks through my work and social media who are also coming into this sort of rapid maturation of the spirit. We are waking up all over the world!

Trauma, subpersonalities, the lie and constant change (parts)

Healing, more than anything, becomes an exercise in learning to trust oneself. This is especially important when there are people about who want to force us to do things that are counterproductive to healing. Unfortunately the medical and psychological establishments perpetuates many such treatments. My village has been patch-worked together from all over the world. I’m profoundly grateful for the internet given I would not have healed otherwise.

And recently, this happened…

The below is a bit out of context because it was shared on twitter where I’d brought up this circumstance before. I had a friend/mentor/ teacher that I spoke to once a week for about four years and then remained in contact for a couple more. I never considered him a guru or anything but… Continue Reading →

An inclusive approach to mental health: Not all in the brain

submitted to Beyond Meds by Oxford University Press – By Michelle Maiese — For many years, the prevailing view among both cognitive scientists and philosophers has been that the brain is sufficient for cognition, and that once we discover its secrets, we will be able to unravel the mysteries of the mind. Recently however, a growing number of thinkers have begun to challenge this prevailing view that mentality is a purely neural phenomenon. They emphasize, instead, that we are conscious in and through our living bodies. Mentality is not something that happens passively within our brains, but something that we do through dynamic bodily engagement with our surroundings. This shift in perspective has incredibly important implications for the way we treat mental health –

Raw, Open and Real: Moving From Traumatic Aloneness to Universal Oneness

“We don’t have many models for what it looks like to persevere on this healing journey and many stop prematurely. A crucial piece is the willingness to be present with our own pain. As humans it’s natural to want to avoid pain, but usually it’s the avoidance of pain that is more painful than the actual pain. That’s why support is so essential. The wound begins in relationship and the ultimate healing occurs in relationship as well.” … [click on title to read the rest]

the mental health professionals who perpetrate against us

I think a lot about why I can’t work therapeutically with people in the mental illness system. I have found that the same traumatic dynamic comes up with some frequency outside that system too with “healers” of all stripes really…alternative doctors, energy workers, therapists of various sorts, you name it…if they are in the healing profession they’ve hurt me and people like me. Some of us are like magnets to people’s ugliness. This is a sort of karmic phenomena for some of us and to change it we must become aware of how it works under the surface because it’s not a conscious process for anyone involved. Clinicians are the worst because they’re in a position of power and they deny that this is happening. That of course adds to the injurious nature of the dynamic. …

Are you at the end of your rope?

This is a very brief but wonderful meditation and emotional release. I highly recommend it. — little excerpt (While) feeling so frustrated with all the trying and “efforting” that we put into things, I’d like us to go a little deeper and explore what the real underpinning is of all of that push to try to be in control of things. So in this moment can you allow yourself to just feel how much you just want to ‘effort;, in fact it happens a lot, all day long… … [click on the title to read and view more]

Healing the body/mind with the willingness to feel

As one opens up to the pain of the past one heals so that one can move into the future.

Working with “parts” and “subpersonalities”

Those of us whose nervous system have been destroyed by psych drugs and withdrawal from them often find ourselves simply splayed open. In essence, our unconscious is screaming at us because our nervous systems have been gravely injured. As we begin to heal we find ourselves diving more and more deeply into our psyches by necessity. This is about some of what we find. This is not unique to those of us who’ve come off psych drugs…it’s simply laid bare. All our human psyches are made like this. …
