Body and brain are incredibly weird and fringe – astonishingly beautiful and horrifying too

As I heal my brain/body I lose the capacity to dissociate ... it's excruciatingly painful. Both physically and emotionally. ...

Love. Acceptance. More important than “help”

People (often) don't need help. They need love. Acceptance. Space to discover who they really are.  Practical "help" might come in the way of providing actual needs like food, water, and shelter...but for the interior journey--holding space is far more important. Also, providing support so that expression of that interior journey can be manifested however the person taking that journey needs to do that in the safest way possible. Telling people what to do whether it's relatively subtle or whether its with explicit force doesn't provide a healing context.. ...

short and sweet: 6 brutal truths (parts)

Once we’re adults we cannot expect another adult to fix the infantile parts of ourselves that were never appropriately nurtured by our parents. Healing is about becoming conscious of those parts and then learning to reparent those parts for ourselves. No one else will ever know what all the little hurt children within us need.... Healing from trauma is an unlayering process

Healing from trauma as well as the waking up process, in general, is often experienced as an unlayering process. Lately I've been revisiting the oldest wounding again. It's been a doozy. It's got correlates in the body (and shows up as chronic illness via the psych drug damage--everything matters and everything is connected!) and so I've not been feeling well either. It's bringing up all the stuff about the system and healers that played into my even earlier wounding.

Pharmaceuticals suppress symptoms…(and thus lie to us)

Western medicine with it's penchant for suppression is a real political force. In suppressing the body's cries we are also denying the psyche. One need only look at US political process and our communities rife with racism, sexism and homophobia to see what this denial has created. Pharmaceuticals suppress symptoms and then keep one in the maintenance mode, creating customers for life and guaranteeing no real healing. ...

Oliver Sacks helps me explain hypersensitivity

We can also know which herbs will heal us and when it's appropriate to take them (a delightful thing I've learned as an amateur herbalist as I heal my brain) we are insanely out of touch with our animal selves. We have instinct and intuition like all animals...we can relearn and remember these skills...

a time for everything

Remember: inflammation, when not gone awry, helps the body heal. The healthy body wants a healthy inflammatory response. It allows for the flushing of foreign invaders out of the body. It’s not until the body is unhealthy, (beyond threshold in multiple ways) that inflammation gets out of control and starts hurting the body… Everything has it's place and time.

The microbiome and healing diets

The microbiome and healing diets . ~~ The bugs in our gut, good and bad, have consciousness. "Good" ones keep us happy and healthy. The "bad" ones mess with us in a multitude of ways. Many problematic microbes colonize in ways that underscore and support neural pathways of trauma. You might say the bugs hold the consciousness and thus can make us live in the trauma.

Psychiatric labels don’t make sense anymore

We are kaleidoscopic beings -- endlessly variant. Social, political, psychological, ecological, cultural, biological all having impact. When we don't engage our kaleidoscopic reality in a very active way - thinking we understand anything at all is ridiculous. Everything Matters -- it's the meme I use as a title for my work because it encapsulates our essence..

Thank god for Dr. Google & Gut bacteria tell the brain what animals should eat

For people like me it is illness that calls us to wellness and waking up. Thank god for Dr. Google. Seriously. And to hell with those who glance side-ways at those of us who've learned to doctor ourselves. We commit *science* via observations of our own bodies everyday. We learn by coming up with hypothesis and... Continue Reading →
