Alienation causes fear and fear deepens alienation

But when you look at anything as separate from you, you cannot love it for you are afraid of it. Alienation causes fear and fear deepens alienation. It is a vicious circle. Only self-realisation can break it. Go for it resolutely. … [click on title to read and view more]

This is who I am—take me or leave me

Take time to listen to your dreams, to write them down. Take time to recognize that there are things going on within you that need to be felt, or said, or lived, or grieved. Pay attention to these things both in yourself and in the people in your life. Pay attention to the authentic self. … [click on title to read and view more]

We Are from the Future — Next Stage: Revolution of Love

I see you. You are not alone. We are in this together. That line is from the below video. Thanks to my friend, Lauren Worsh who shared this video with me and said this in response to the conversation we had: "There’s a lot I really like about this video, but one thing that I’m appreciating right now is how simply it states that a fear-filled populace and opportunistic, corrupt governments co-arise, give birth to each other, require each other. Reconciles that Us vs. Them into the unity it is, and invites acknowledgment of our power and responsibility, without denying institutionalized corruption and treachery" … [click on title to read and view more]

What are you doing with your life?

A total, an enriching revolution cannot take place unless you and I understand ourselves as a total process. You and I are not isolated individuals but are the result of the whole human struggle with its illusions, fancies, pursuits, ignorance, strife, conflict, and misery. One cannot begin to alter the condition of the world without understanding oneself. If you see that, there is immediately within you a complete revolution, is there not? Then no guru is necessary because knowledge of oneself is from moment to moment, it is not the accumulation of hearsay, nor is it contained in the precepts of religious teachers. Because you are discovering yourself in relationship with another from moment to moment, relationship has a completely different meaning. Relationship then is a revelation, a constant process of the discovery of oneself, and from this self-discovery, action takes place. So, self-knowledge can come only through relationship, not through isolation. Relationship is action, and self-knowledge is the result of awareness in action … [click on title for the rest of the post]

The guru is within…

The below sentiment is true about learning to live well in general whether you’re thinking of things in terms of spirituality or not. For example we would be much better served if we were told by mental health professionals from the very beginning to trust ourselves rather than anyone telling us what to do. Instead, the entire system is fraught with the infantilization of the client…this is (in general) true of both psychology and psychiatry as currently practiced. … [click on title for the rest of the post]

The body knows: trauma and the body

I've posted several times now about Bessel van der Kolk's work. Below are some quotes from his book " The Body Keeps the Score," that Laura K. Kerr selected. She is currently reading the book. I look forward to her writing on her thoughts about the book when she completes it. She writes wonderful posts on... Continue Reading →

The more beautiful world our hearts know is possible

How much of the ugly does it take to substitute for a lack of the beautiful? How many adventure films does it take to compensate for a lack of adventure? How many superhero movies must one watch, to compensate for the atrophied expression of one’s greatness? How much pornography to meet the need for intimacy? How much entertainment to substitute for missing play? It takes an infinite amount. That’s good news for economic growth, but bad news for the planet. Fortunately, our planet isn’t allowing much more of it, nor is our ravaged social fabric. … [click on title for the rest of the post]

Community is people

Community means caring: caring for people. Dietrich Bonhoeffer says: 'He who loves community destroys community: he who loves the brethren builds community.' A community is not an abstract ideal. We are not striving for perfect community. Community is not an ideal: it is people. It is you and I. In community we are called to love people just as they are with their wounds and their gifts, not as we would want them to be. Community means giving them space, helping them to grow. It means also receiving from them so that we too can grow. It is giving each their freedom; it is giving each other trust; it is confirming but also challenging each other. We give dignity to each other by the way we listen to each other, in a spirit of trust and of dying to oneself so that the other may live, grow, and give. … [click on title to read and view more]

Through love vinegar becomes rich wine

A bit of Rumi to wake up to this morning: Through love bitter things seem sweet. Through love scraps of copper are turned to gold. Through love dregs taste like clear wine. Through love agonies are healing balms. Through love thorns become roses. Through love vinegar becomes rich wine. Through love the scaffold becomes a... Continue Reading →

If you’re paying attention your heart breaks regularly

If you're really listening, if you're awake to the poignant beauty of the world, your heart breaks regularly. In fact, your heart is made to break; its purpose is to burst open again and again so that it can hold evermore wonders. … [click on title to read and view more]
