Waking After a Lifetime: Ingrid’s Voice

This bodymind named Ingrid has so much to say…and what seeks expression is not just for the sake of my own healing, but to serve as a beacon for anyone on a similar path, who needs to know they are not alone. Mine is a path of emerging from profound trauma, adversity, and lack, and of living in the world as highly sensitive, gifted, neurodiverse, and spiritually awakening. We are the people who so often find ourselves in the offices of professional helpers…and I will write for them, too, as it is imperative that those who would presume to walk with us, understand what actually helps…and be willing to challenge that which does not…even though this will take them straight into the heart of their own pain....

Study shows 31 Rx drugs (mostly psychiatric) associated with reports of violence towards others

These are links to a few articles on gun violence and psychiatry from this site. Yes, they're pretty clearly connected but we live in a world in which it's members are encouraged to keep their heads up a small, dark, tight canal in the bottom half of the body.   ...

Trauma patterning and raving loonies

"I’d much rather be with a raving loony who was directly confronting their bullshit than someone who spends all their energy repressing it. The cloaking thing always strikes a tinny note that would register as jarring and discordant to anyone able to “hear” it." -Jed McKenna .....

Everyone is mentally ill

I think that instead of denying mental illness at the individual level (for some good reasons like lack of lab work indicating any sort of markers of any actual disease) it's time to recognize that everyone is mentally ill...and some of those most impacted are psychiatrists and other officials of the state who harm those of us who are more conscious...not less. Our society and world is sick...the individuals who are most sensitive are canaries in the coal mine. We all need help and we all need healing. Everyone on the planet needs to come to consciousness should we wish to save our species as well as a lot of others too. "It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society." - Jiddu Krishnamurti ... [click on title for the rest of the post]

A Theological Interpretation of Mental illness-A Focus on “Schizophrenia”

And so I embarked on the darkest journey of my life, one for which neither I nor my husband were prepared. I soon found out that there was no one who could help us. The psychiatrists, even the more sympathetic ones, were not making sense to me. I was coming from the business world and I was not used to accepting superficial answers. They could not tell me what was wrong with Helia and why this had happened to her. They could not answer my challenging questions about the scientific research in the field. The best doctors, the honest ones, would tell me: “We really don’t know what this is, but we are sure that something is wrong with her brain.” But why? “Why are you so sure that it is her brain?” I asked. Their response was, “because it can’t be anything else.” And that is exactly where the problem lay. They could not get out of the box that they were forced into by their guild. Biological psychiatry, in my opinion, suffers from a flawed and reductionist conception of how the human mind works and what might be needed to help it to function optimally when it is not doing so. … [click on title for the rest of the post]

The Sacred Science: the full feature film (Shamanism)

Looking for a new prescription for serious illness? Take eight intrepid patients, add a team of indigenous medicine men and shamans, and mix for 30 days in the Peruvian Amazon. Suffering from conditions ranging from Parkinson's to prostate cancer to diabetes, these patients are motivated by a commitment to heal naturally and sheer desperation to end their suffering. Immersed in nature, silence and solitude, shamanic medicine ceremonies open them to the emotional and psychological issues underlying their dis-ease. The experienced shamans mindfully harvest and prepare specific remedies for their patients, with treatments that include healing songs and spiritual counsel. Entering the heart of healing in the heart of the Amazon, we find that saving the rainforest really does mean saving ourselves. … [click on title for the rest of the post]

World mental health day: empowering ways to consider your experience

The way we consider and interpret our experience is critically important. Psychiatry and most of the mental illness system tells us we will never get better and that we will have to manage the disease of mental illness for the rest of our lives most often by taking toxic medications which can seriously negatively impact the quality of our lives and even kill us up to 25 years earlier than the rest of the population. It simply does not have to be this way. It's often not true that people's only option is to take dangerous medications for the rest of their lives and yet most people are not told about any options. … [click on title to read and view more]

State of mental health care #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth

It's important to consider what the right kind of care for those with mental health issues is because the fact is much of what is considered state of art now makes many people worse. Blanket calls for more available care isn't enough if we don't also think about what better care looks like. Pushing for making mental health treatment more accessible is not helpful if the available treatment is just plain bad as it is for the most part now. … [click on title to read and view more]

Los Angeles has increased its outpatient involuntary treatment program in spite of UN declaring force torture

Even as we have access to more and more information that links that which gets labeled mental illness to trauma -- treatment that exacerbates the trauma response continues to gain legal traction all over the country. This, of course, leads to the epidemic of harm and iatrogenic illness we're watching happen. … [click on title for the rest of the post]

Mental illness shortens life. Should read: medications are neurotoxic

When this issue is covered in the media they always fail to mention that psych drugs tax the bodies in multiple ways that can cause early death. Impacting cardiovascular health in numerous ways and causing serious and numerous and also potentially deadly metabolic issues...this omission is criminal and frankly ridiculous. … [click on title for the rest of the post]
