Very important point and anyone who has traveled at all knows how true this is. -- that the United States is an "underdeveloped" country when it comes to compassion and attention. … [click on title to read more]
“Soul Repair” And Veterans Of Trauma
A program called The Soul Repair Center at Brite Divinity School in Fort Worth, Texas studies the moral injuries of combat. The Center’s members believe a moral injury happens to warriors when they must make decisions during combat that oppose their moral convictions. Their website shares the following description of the moral injuries of war: “Moral injury is perpetrating, failing to prevent, bearing witness to, or learning about acts that transgress deeply held moral beliefs and expectations. This may entail participating in or witnessing inhumane or cruel actions, failing to prevent the immoral acts of others, as well as engaging in subtle acts or experiencing reactions that, upon reflection, transgress a moral code.” … [click on title to read more]
brightness/darkness
Your brightness is my darkness. I know nothing of You and, by myself, I cannot even imagine how to go about knowing You. If I imagine You, I am mistaken. If I understand You, I am deluded.... … [click on title to read more]

Butternut squash soup — #foodie friday
I'm in school. Yes. I've started an internet based nutrition program. It means I can continue my education and get certified in something I already kind of do informally while still mostly stuck at home while I continue recovering. It's fun and I'm happy I can do it. I couldn't have done it even 6 months ago. My well-being continues to improve. So with that announcement I'm going to share a post I shared with my fellow students in one of our online forums. It's an informal post about soup I was making, as I was making it. I figured the readers of this blog might enjoy it too. … [click on title to read more]
CG Jung And The ‘Leap Of Faith’ Into Individuation
The Red Book has been described as Jung’s creative response to the threat of madness, yet it has also been seen as a deliberate exercise in self-analysis. I believe it’s likely both. When creating The Red Book, Jung knew he was on the verge of madness, and he also knew his analytical skills and expertise as a psychiatrist were his best chance at alleviating suffering, if not creating the conditions for transformation. … [click on title to read more]
Antidepressant info
To refer to SSRIs as no better than placebo is misleading because while it's technically true in clinical trials -- they are also very different than placebos...they are NOT inert...they are very active and they make EVERYONE feel differently. People who are very depressed like to feel differently. Different can sometimes feel better even if only for a while. Sometimes different feels much better and sometimes different feels really bad and even dangerous (think homicidal and suicidal--SSRIs are associated with both). They are not inert and they will act in all manner of ways in different people. And, then of course, yeah, they also cause iatrogenic damage...often severe... … [click on title to read more]
Often lack of empathy is just a lack of imagination…
There are as many paths as there are human beings. The only one who can appropriately determine that path is the individual. We need each other, no doubt, though the only way people can find themselves is to make their own choices and their own mistakes. Respecting our differences is vitally important. Sometimes that means letting people go or having to leave. So be it. Sometimes I think that lack of empathy is just a lack of imagination.… [click on title to read more]
The Myth of the Chemical Cure: The Politics of Psychiatric Drug Treatment
This won't contain new information for long time readers of this blog, but gratefully, Beyond Meds is always finding new readers.
