In these times feel good stuff from brilliant poets really need to be challenged. I mean I love Rilke and agree with him in an absolute way, but when you get into a fascist reality controlling your government and world you need to consider all contexts….
I saw this on someone’s timeline:
everything that frightens us

and my response was this:
that’s all well and good unless you’re facing an abuser with a gun in your face…or a government who wants you disappeared.
I actually agree with it on a certain level in an absolute sense. But most people aren’t in such a space nor should they be expected to be.
I’ve actually faced a man with a gun once and disarmed him. Men with knives two other times. I’m a social worker and have worked in some pretty intense places…my capacity to be fearless in the face of weapons is pretty unusual however and it wouldn’t hold up in all situations…I’m not delusional and know my limits.
in general I would recommend people respond to their fear as wisely as possible and most likely STAY THE HECK away from dangerous people and respecting their fear as actually telling them something of value. Healing trauma isn’t about denying our feelings. Responding accurately to an authoritative government requires respecting all our feelings!
- Fear and anxiety: coping, reframing, transforming…
- Somatic imperative: collection
- Your body tells you if you’re not in harmony
