Does psychotherapy work?

Presented just to think about from the New York Time Sunday Book Review is the article, "Still crazy after all these years." It's about psychotherapy and whether it works. Frankly I think it's a largely hit or miss enterprise. It certainly changes the lives of some but clearly does nothing for so many as well.... Continue Reading →

Psycho kitties—holiday interlude begins

A controversial Canadian supplement works for this woman

I don't like endorsing products and this is not an endorsement, but it is the story of a woman whose experience I believe. And it is in fact a "bipolar" recovery story. A case of someone lacking necessary nutrients. Products like EmpowerPlus are what I call "shot-gun" approaches. They may work very well for some... Continue Reading →

Big pharma’s reach is everywhere

This story has been brewing for a while---pharma corruption in the Nobel Prize process. The drugs in question (the vaccines) are highly controversial and AstraZeneca has been pushing real hard to have every 11 year old girl vaccinated (specifically with Gardasil.) There are a lot of problems and side effects associated with them including death.... Continue Reading →

DSM-V or “creative writing for psychiatrists”

From the New York Times today comes another article about the controversial "psychiatric bible." The book where in the past over 50% of the people making up diagnosis had ties to pharma. (I'm sure it's not terribly different now) And pharma likes to take those diagnosis that come from behaviors (no not any measurable chemical... Continue Reading →

Reactions have varied from excited, to "well 90% of the solution is better than not at all" to cynicism as long as any kids are left on meds at all. The doctor running the place says:... Finding the Right Healers for My Withdrawal Journey

Update 2026: This post predates my learning more about the importance of slow, methodical withdrawal. I started withdrawing when the online scene was just learning what was possible! It's hard to believe how many voices are out there now. This was first posted in 2008. The internet was brand new , really and totally different than it is now, both. This site was where people went for withdrawal info. Here and a few forums and/or email groups that are mostly all gone now. Given that I didn't yet know how protracted my situation would be I was still looking for professionals to work with. I did find a few gems but ultimately learned that my journey would be one of learning to trust mself and listen to my body. Nature would be my primary guide. So what's happening in my journey lately?

Mood-stabilizers get FDA suicide warning

This came up months ago but has been more seriously followed up on. As Philip says on Furious Seasons it's unclear if this is to be a "black box" warning yet, the most serious of warnings on pharmaceuticals. These are the "mood-stabilizers" that were first created as anti-convulsants. "The risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior... Continue Reading →

MindFreedom's actions and us bloggers who have helped get the word out has helped Ray's situation gain national attention. Listen to the almost nine minute segment here.
