We must turn away from the cacaphony of the outerworld to hear the inner voice. When we can dare to live its promptings, then we achieve personhood. We may become strangers to those who thought they knew us, but at least we are no longer strangers to ourselves. … [click on title for the rest of the post]
Shaking medicine
I am struck with gratitude sometimes at the mere thought of how many different things can aid us in healing. It's a sad thing that modern medicine is clutched in a sort of poverty mentality so that it cannot even recognize some of our most profound vehicles of transformation. This is why I share as many different modes of therapeutic practice as I can find. We all respond and resonate to different combinations of things and in the end being healthy and whole is just about learning to live well and that means recognizing that which is helpful to us. … [click on title for the rest of the post]
You do not need to know precisely what is happening (merton)
Well, basically, we cannot ever really know what is happening, but, yeah:
You do not need to know precisely what is happening, or exactly where it is all going. What you need is to recognize the possibilities and challenges offered by the present moment, and to embrace them with courage, faith, and hope. … [click on title for the rest of the post]
There is nothing wrong with you
I am now only scratching the surface of coming to understand just how much is RIGHT with me...right with all of us, should we only remember...should we only come to know what our human inheritance allows.

Interdependence day: we are all connected
The whole idea of compassion is based on a keen awareness of the interdependence of all these living beings, which are all part of one another, and all involved in one another. -- Thomas Merton
I am a citizen of the world and the universe. I shy away from any form of nationalism. Division harms us. That doesn't erase our important differences either. It simply avoids underscoring them. … [click on title for the rest of the post]
Diverse Experience with Psych Drugs
I’ve been told that sharing my story is a form of recklessness. Today I saw this quote by Albert Einstein: Those who have the privilege to know have the duty to act. – Albert Einstein Some people seem to feel threatened by people’s personal experiences and stories if they differ from their own…
Through the body we receive the wisdom, love, and compassion that animates us
The body is our vehicle of awakening. Through the body we receive the wisdom, love, and compassion that animates us. All we are, all we know, all we feel, all we experience is via the body. Listening with our whole being is wise indeed … [click on title for the rest of the post]
The compliant kid
By Russell Baugher
I wish I’d been less compliant when I took psychiatric medication. The non-compliant folks have the best stories. They possess a richness of character. Their lives, on the surface, appear more fleshed out. They are, in some ways, more human.
I am, in my mind, something else, with an impoverished character. I took psych meds every day from age eleven to age thirty. The last five of those years were spent tapering off all meds. Now, I am healing, and learning how to be human. I no longer wake up with anti-psychotics, anti-depressants, benzos, stimulants, and sedatives queued up in a weekly pill organizer. Even the “jumbo” organizers weren’t large enough for all my medications. And I took those medications religiously. I didn’t know if they would help save my life, but I must’ve believed they’d deliver me from something… … [click on title for the rest of the post]
