I’m thrilled…lab work proves I’m doing it right! (thyroid issues and herbs)

I tested hyperthyroid about 6 weeks ago…it made my iatrogenic nervous system chaos far worse.
I took herbs (mostly a variety of different but particular nervine herbs which I made into teas and sipped therapeutically throughout the day) and did yoga, concentrating on a few poses for supporting my thyroid and also emphasized certain healthy foods in my diet. A few days ago I sensed I no longer needed the herbs (I continuously intuitively took what I needed, not what is generally prescribed by herbalists, even…I totally listened to my body and the energetics of the herbs) So I stopped the herbs a few days ago as they seemed to no longer be needed and in fact were not agreeing with me anymore and so I stopped them over the course of a few days.
Today it’s been 6 weeks since I last tested and my thyroid test came back NORMAL. … [click on title for the rest of the post]

Herbed cream of cauliflower soup #foodie friday

This was a very easy soup to make since I did it the lazy way and didn’t sauté all the veggies first save the garlic and onion. I simply coarsely chopped up all the veggies and tossed them into stock. This is a large soup as I like to freeze some for later. It can be made smaller or larger very easily and precise amounts of ingredients isn’t terribly important. … [click on title to read more]

Intro to Ayurveda (for chronic illness, psych drug withdrawal, TD)

I have gone to practitioners but, Ayurveda, at foundation, is about learning to listen to your body and know how to feed it, move it, rest it and take care of it as needed. That is always our job in the end.

I never found a practitioner who could deal with my extreme and multiple issues either. I couldn’t even leave my house for 5 years as I was bedridden. I started these practices on my own at home in my bed. I am no longer bedridden. I am no longer nonverbal.

I still have tardive dyskinesia and I still love Ayurveda with a profound gratefulness as it helped me be in touch with my body. This is good stuff for anyone in life at anytime. …

Returning to roots and well-being with food

I made eggplant Parmesan for the first time in at least 10 years. Reintroducing foods from my ancestry (I’m an immigrants daughter so it’s not far removed) I ate this way growing up, along with speaking Italian in my American home. My healing has taken me full circle. In rediscovering the diet of the people… Continue Reading →

Getting healthy means coming to balance

I had multiple infections that responded to Lyme disease treatment. I never tested positive for Lyme and gave up on doctors after that. Healing (for me) didn’t mean killing off all micro-organisms. It meant bringing balance by moving out excess of the ones making me sick and building up with other more expansive ones. These… Continue Reading →

Life force wants our camaraderie…(some thoughts arising during quarantine)

Self-medicating?  everyone self medicates. A healing diet is a form of self-medication, so is listening to calming music, or going running and doing yoga.  And sure, so is downing a bottle of wine, smoking or doing any other substance for the purpose of easing ones emotional state. Self-medicating is totally normal.  Learning to do it skillfully is the intent of a harm reduction practice. We’re creatures that survive by ingesting substances of all kinds…food and herbs included. Only thing wrong is that we’ve not been allowed be ourselves and learn to listen to our bodies. …

Quarantine bites

thank you to Lee Hodges, Store Manager at Lowe’s Home Improvement — from Linked In. I was so pleased to see someone who isn’t clearly in the world of mental health speaking up for folks. Lee Hodges said: I’ve seen a lot of nasty posts in regards to people making “non-essential” trips .. Do you… Continue Reading →

The hungry ghosts know. Listen.

Somatic mysticism, diet and returning to my ancestry…. I like using “somatic mysticism” to explain my experience because I feel everything deeply in my body. I can feel my cells doing their work quite often and I feel all manner of metabolic movement and I feel far more than I can even begin to really… Continue Reading →
