A raven came to me in a dream

It was flying just like this one.

I woke up and knew that ravens have great significance in shamanism and to tribal people, so I looked it up and came up with the below bits and pieces. I will call my shaman friend and report to her later.

American Indians associated Raven with magick, a powerful medicine or power that gives courage to enter the void, the Great Mystery where Great Spirit resides. When Raven appears, there will be a positive change in consciousness. Raven guards ritual magick and healing.

Raven brought light into the darkness of the world and transformed and created part of Maka, Mother Earth. He named plants and taught animals.

Raven is the hallmark of shape-shifting. Raven could see all and find things that are hidden.

Some tribes believe that Raven is Trickster like Coyote and Crow. Raven is teacher out outwits himself, being fooled by his shenanigans.

Raven, in accordance with Celtic symbolism, is believed to be a sign that something special, but unexpected will happen.

Raven – Trickster, teacher, hoarder, healing, initiation, protection, shaman’s power, transformation, change in consciousness, mark of a shape shifter.

Unlike the coyote in Native American myth who is tricky but often times foolish the raven has the knowledge to fool its opponents and get away with it. This often times leads to Shamans believing that the vast knowledge held by the raven should only be sought in times of great need and only with great care.

  1. This is totaly fitting of my characteristics and abilitys so my name is very appropriate. I loved this thank you. Spiritual Blessings

  2. I found this while looking up photos of ravens in flight. There were three in my area today. Not unheard of, but especially rare.

    Thank you for sharing this.

  3. Interesting. I don’t really resonate with ravens or crows, but very much with birds in general. One of my spirit animals is the blue heron. But here’s an interesting coincidence. Lately it has come to me that I need to pay more attn to eagles. Now, I’ve long known that “eagle magic” is not for everyone, say the tribes, but only certain persons are called to it, it’s heavy duty, and not for the everyday stuff. So I found it interesting food for thought that we might affiliate with certain animal powers “only in times of great need and with great care.”

    Thanks!
