Anderson Cooper went to this retreat having never meditated. I found the clip quite enjoyable and if you’re new to meditation it might be quite informative too.
On a “mindfulness” retreat, Anderson Cooper puts down the microphone and learns to love silence, as well as life without a cell phone.
I want to reiterate now that mindfulness and meditation need not always be practiced in this very formal way. There is a good post that explores the potential flexibility of becoming mindful here:
Science of mindlessness and mindfulness… Take note that Ellen Langer is very clear about the fact that sitting meditation is not the only way to become mindful. I love how she doesn’t attach any particular belief system or set of practices with becoming mindful. There are many ways to pay attention as I’ve tried to make clear many times on this blog. We can all find a way that makes sense to us. Individually.
