healing is living ritual

photo depicts healing as living ritual as what I’ve called “environmental yoga” is being performed. Yoga. Right here, right now. Who needs a mat?

healing is living ritual…one must enter another world and listen to that which has been largely forgotten.

my environment is my therapist…that includes all of nature, the man made world and all creatures great and small. when one pays attention to the context in which one finds oneself in, all that is needed to understand is right here, right now. Be. Do, don’t do. Watch.
(in the above photo, it’s the car allowing yoga in a novel way to meet the moment)

my yoga process is blossoming.

I do yoga in any and all environments I find myself in and am learning to do it surreptitiously and not so surreptitiously anywhere I find myself. Bathroom stalls, walls as props, corners and weird stretches in chairs and while standing in line etc

I need to do this if I don’t want to look like a wild child (or an unhinged adult)…for me to go out into the world I need to do yoga (I need to move, one way or another…sometimes I need to jump around) and integrate it into every moment…that is what i’m learning right now and what my body is able to do…kids who can’t stop moving are labeled and drugged.

I’m like that kid now…it’s a detoxification issue for me…when detox pathways don’t run smoothly moving becomes an imperative that cannot be denied unless one wants to become ill. Of note to those for whom it matters my yoga looks like “stimming” sometimes too.

My experience suggests that tardive dyskinesia is a form of stimming gone whack. Purposeful movement helps manage the out of control, involuntary stuff.

my body prioritizes movement right now in such a way that it’s all I can do if I want to do anything at all. What does my body need right now to be okay? Food, movement, sleep, water? Or maybe stillness or even stillness in movement? Survival mode: when one surrenders to it all it ushers in gloriousness…

“The Master has no mind of her own.
She works with the mind of the people
She is good to people who are good
She is also good to people who aren’t good
This is true goodness
She trusts people who are trustworthy
She also trusts people who aren’t trustworthy
This is true trust”

From the:

Tao te ching chapter 49 – translated by Stephen Mitchell

Stephen Mitchell once guest lectured in one of my religious studies classes at UC Berkeley. We had fun afterwards and hung out on the grass with about 5 other students. Many academics don’t much like this translation. I quite enjoy it. It includes an attempt to be gender neutral by using she and he alternately.
