Writing as healing practice

writingWriting has most certainly helped me profoundly, so I’m posting this in the interest of sharing yet another possibility for a healing method and practice. I have dozens of them at this point. Practices. We all have different ways of finding out how to live well. Expression of some sort seems to be vitally important for most if not all people.

“You don’t remember me, but I was in your experiment a year ago. I just wanted to thank you. It changed my life.”

In the early 80’s he came across a study showing that people who experienced personal traumas but didn’t discuss them were more likely to get sick.

He wondered if just writing about their emotional upheavals could help people recover. And the research he did changed lives.

In the 30 years since, hundreds of studies have documented the effectiveness of expressive writing.

I once found this website and found it very helpful: One Year of Writing and Healing. It’s been in my list of healing blogs for several years now. It offers suggestions to get you writing and healing.
