I spent a lot of time with Tara Brach’s work several years ago. Below is the work that brought me to her. I still carry the teachings from Radical Acceptance with me. She is perhaps the first teacher who brought the idea of deep acceptance of reality to my consciousness....at least in an explicit way.
If you love peace
Instead of hating the people you think are war-makers, hate the appetites and disorder in your own soul, which are the causes of war....
Willpower and choice…we can do simple things to strengthen our capacities to make healthy choices
There are some very good insights into how we can do what we want in our lives and become healthier in the video I share below. No surprise and most simply how much sleep someone gets is VERY important. Sleep, meditation, exercise and what we eat will all train our physiology to be the most... Continue Reading →
What we do to others we do to ourselves
We need to recognize — and recognize with our whole being — that what we do to another, both in action and intention, we do to ourselves. Such recognition does not necessarily mean that we should stop protecting ourselves, but that we stop overbudgeting for defence, stop dehumanizing others, and not leave our heart out... What is strength? Life, death and resilience
A man who has faced great trauma and has learned to thrive. I find his work both inspiring and pragmatic, that's a combination I really love. __________________________________________
Psychiatric drug withdrawal: Why taper by 10% of your dosage?
We believe that, for a minority, the risk of severe withdrawal is so great, a very conservative approach to tapering to protect everyone is called for. Many people seem to be able to taper off psychiatric medications in a couple of weeks or even cold-turkey with minor withdrawal symptoms perhaps for a month or so. Doctors therefore expect everyone can do this. However, it seems a minority suffer severe symptoms for much longer. It is unknown how large or small this minority is. You may very well be in it. You cannot know how your nervous system will respond to a decrease in medication until you try it.
Neurological and Psychological Correlates of Enlightenment
Taking a look at people who are deeply fulfilled. There are some really great tips at the end of this video that are worth thinking about. Most notably whatever you're using for your personal growth at any given time may change and that people's needs are hugely different from person to person. Something I try to underscore on this blog again and again. Growing spiritually and psychologically is NOT a one size fits all situation and it will never be.

(I may add to this post over the weekend, check back) Allen Frances MD writes two blogs. He is a psychiatrist and former chair of the DSM-IV Task Force and currently professor... Continue Reading →

Lets do more of this in our schools...look at the expressions on these kids faces...this is wholesome, lovely fun! Music and singing heals too.
It is always sunrise somewhere…
This grand show is eternal. It is always sunrise somewhere; the dew is never all dried at once; a shower is forever falling; vapor ever rising. Eternal sunrise, eternal sunset, eternal dawn and gloaming, on seas and continents and islands, each in its turn, as the round earth rolls. - John Muir
Out of our minds: learning to be creative
speaks to societal issues of great importance that in turn effect everyone's mental health whether the connection is made explicitly of not.
