Pay attention…

Because meditation and mindfulness is really just about learning to pay attention.

Bodhisattva…It’s like, you just go out there every day and it’s a new world, and freshly, on the spot, you just notice when you close. Notice when your mind closes. Notice when your heart closes. Notice when you become unconscious. Notice when you become mindless. Or notice when you feel hard-hearted or where some kind of righteous indignation takes over and you become a fundamentalist about your view… I’m just saying, everyone is on their own with this. There is no code about this written anywhere. It’s like, what will it take for you to be less hard-hearted, less closed-minded, or less selfish at the end of each day of your life? But mostly at the end of your whole life…that you die more open-hearted and open-minded than you are today. – Pema Chodron from Bodhisattva Mind

More Pema Chodron on Beyond Meds

These are my two favorite books by Pema, though I think everything I’ve read speaks to me:

● When Things Fall Apart: Heart Advice for Difficult Times
● The Places That Scare You: A Guide to Fearlessness in Difficult Times

A friend gifted me these CDs and they were incredibly helpful as well:

● Unconditional Confidence: Instructions for Meeting Any Experience with Trust and Courage
