Rumi opens the dark passage

Update 2026: I was lucky to get to study with the Oxford Rumi scholar, Andrew Harvey. I have a lot of bits and pieces of Rumi on this site. It’s worth mentioning that a lot of Rumi quotes on the net are not authentic at this point.

Every midwife knows
that not until a mother’s womb
softens from the pain of labour
will a way unfold
and the infant find that opening to be born.

Oh friend!
There is treasure in your heart,
it is heavy with child.

All the awakened ones,
like trusted midwives are saying,
‘welcome this pain.
It opens the dark passage of Grace.
